Health And Safety Policy
Cleaner Watford Health And Safety Policy
This Health and Safety Policy sets out how Cleaner Watford manages health, safety and welfare for employees, subcontractors, clients and members of the public. Our aim is to prevent accidents, work-related ill health and damage to property while delivering professional cleaning services in client homes and business premises.
Policy Statement
Cleaner Watford is committed to providing and maintaining a safe and healthy working environment. We will identify and control risks arising from our cleaning activities, ensure staff are competent and properly supervised, and promote a positive health and safety culture across the company.
Management accepts overall responsibility for implementing this policy and providing the resources necessary to meet our health and safety objectives. All employees and subcontractors are required to cooperate fully and to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions.
Legal Responsibilities
Cleaner Watford will comply with all relevant health and safety legislation and industry guidance applicable to cleaning services. We will review changes in legal requirements and update our procedures to ensure continued compliance. Health and safety responsibilities are treated with the same priority as operational and commercial objectives.
Health And Safety Organisation
The company management is responsible for establishing and reviewing the health and safety policy, setting measurable objectives and ensuring adequate resources are available. Supervisors are responsible for implementing procedures on site, monitoring standards of work and reporting hazards, near misses and incidents.
Employees must follow all safety instructions, use equipment correctly, wear any required personal protective equipment and immediately report hazardous conditions, accidents or near misses to their supervisor or manager.
Risk Assessment And Safe Systems Of Work
Cleaner Watford will carry out suitable and sufficient risk assessments for all routine and non-routine cleaning tasks, including work in domestic properties, offices, commercial premises and communal areas. Assessments will consider risks such as slips and trips, manual handling, use of ladders and access equipment, exposure to cleaning chemicals, lone working, electrical equipment use and interaction with building occupants.
Based on these assessments, we will develop safe systems of work, method statements and site specific instructions where required. Risk assessments will be reviewed regularly and whenever the nature of the work, equipment or substances used changes significantly.
Training And Competence
Cleaner Watford recognises that competent, well trained staff are essential to safe working. All new employees receive an induction covering company health and safety rules, emergency procedures, incident reporting, safe use of cleaning products and equipment, and personal hygiene. Additional task specific training is provided for specialist activities such as machine floor cleaning, use of powered equipment and work at height.
Refresher training is provided as necessary, and training records are maintained to demonstrate competence. Staff are encouraged to raise safety concerns and to suggest improvements to working practices.
Use Of Cleaning Chemicals
The safe use, storage and disposal of cleaning chemicals is a key priority. Cleaner Watford will assess the risks from all substances used, in line with manufacturer guidance. Only approved products will be used, and they must be handled strictly in accordance with the instructions provided.
Chemicals will be stored securely, clearly labelled and kept out of reach of unauthorised persons, especially children and pets in domestic properties. Employees will be trained in safe dilution, application and disposal procedures and in what to do in the event of accidental contact, ingestion or spillage.
Equipment Safety
All cleaning equipment, including vacuum cleaners, floor machines, steam cleaners, extension poles and ladders, will be selected, maintained and used to minimise risks to users and others. Equipment will be inspected regularly and taken out of service immediately if any defect is identified.
Employees will not modify equipment or use it for purposes for which it was not designed. Electrical equipment will be visually checked before use and used in accordance with relevant guidance on safe operation.
Manual Handling And Work At Height
Cleaner Watford will minimise manual handling by using mechanical aids and sensible work planning where reasonably practicable. Where manual handling cannot be avoided, staff will receive training on safe lifting techniques and good posture. Loads will be kept within safe limits and tasks will be organised to reduce the risk of back injuries and strains.
Work at height, including the use of steps and ladders for cleaning high surfaces, will be avoided where possible. When it is necessary, only suitable access equipment will be used, and staff will be trained in its safe use. Improvised access methods and unsafe practices are strictly prohibited.
Personal Protective Equipment
Where risks cannot be fully eliminated by other means, Cleaner Watford will provide appropriate personal protective equipment, which may include gloves, eye protection, masks or other items as required by the task. Employees must use the equipment provided, keep it in good condition and report any damage or loss promptly.
Welfare, Hygiene And Infection Control
We promote high standards of personal hygiene and infection control. Staff are instructed in effective hand washing, safe handling of waste, avoidance of cross contamination between areas, and appropriate cleaning methods for sanitary facilities, kitchens and other sensitive spaces.
Where necessary, additional control measures will be implemented for environments with higher infection risks, such as frequent cleaning of touch points and use of appropriate disinfectants.
Accidents, Incidents And Emergency Procedures
All accidents, near misses and hazardous incidents must be reported as soon as possible. Cleaner Watford will investigate these events to identify causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Records will be kept in line with legal requirements and company procedures.
Employees will be informed of emergency arrangements for each site, including fire procedures, evacuation routes and assembly points. Staff must follow client site rules alongside Cleaner Watford procedures.
Monitoring, Review And Continuous Improvement
Cleaner Watford will monitor health and safety performance through site checks, incident reviews, feedback from staff and clients, and regular policy reviews. Findings will be used to improve procedures, training and equipment.
This Health and Safety Policy will be reviewed at least annually and whenever there are significant changes in our operations, legislation or recognised best practice. Updated versions will be communicated to all employees and made available to clients on request.
By following this policy, Cleaner Watford aims to provide a consistently safe, reliable and professional cleaning service while protecting the wellbeing of everyone affected by our work.
